CBAM Challenges at Vividh Wires
Vividh Wires, which has been operational since 1981, faced many challenges related to CBAM. It was faced with a major shock when its shipment of exported products to EU borders was stuck due to CBAM reporting requirements. Major CBAM challenges were:
- Lack of CBAM Knowledge: The most pressing challenge was the lack of adequate CBAM knowledge. The team had very little clue about the EU CBAM and how it would impact them.
- No CBAM Technical Expertise: There was an absolute lack of CBAM technical expertise at Vividh Wires. There were no internal CBAM technical experts who could have handled the technical requirements under CBAM.
- Absent Data Collection: CBAM asks for embedded emissions data, direct and indirect emissions, and precursors data. However, there was an absence of well-coordinated data collection.
- Precursors Data Collection: There was no readiness to collect data from the 4 suppliers of Vividh Wires in their supply chain. This is also a very complex task as it requires multiple kinds of data.
- No Trained Cross-functional Team: Lack of coordination in cross-functional teams was hampering accurate data collection within the Greater Noida manufacturing unit.
- Audit Trail Documents: CBAM mandates verification of all reports from 2026 and 2027, which depends on establishing data trail auditability and traceability. This was not executed properly, and maintaining all data traceability manually—involving many suppliers, vendors, and teams—was a difficult task.
- Timely CBAM Report Generation: Consequently, timely CBAM report generation was not happening. There was no timely data submission from multiple vendors, delaying report generation.
CBAM Solutions Customised for Vividh Wires
- Knowledge Training: The first step that CleanCarbon.ai took was offering free CBAM knowledge training to the team led by Mr. Sanjay Raina, General Manager (QA / QC) at Vividh Wires. During the CBAM knowledge training session, all necessary information was imparted to them.
- Looping in CBAM Technical Expert: The CleanCarbon team, led by CBAM Policy Expert Mr. Shubham Thakur and CBAM Technical Expert Mr. Kashyap Trivedi, visited the Vividh Wires production facility in Greater Noida. Both inspected the production methods, production routes, and processes involved in manufacturing the finished products covered under CBAM CN code 722300. They prepared a comprehensive report on data gaps, technical hurdles, data compilation challenges, and major roadblocks.
- Training Cross-functional Team: One major challenge that emerged was the absence of coordination between cross-functional teams involved in the entire process related to finished products. The team of experts, led by Mr. Nilesh Bhattad, trained all department heads—from production, electricity, raw materials, vendors, and supply management to the plant head, engineers, workers, manager, and the CEO Mr. Ashwani Gupta—on the importance and requirements of details under CBAM. This brought everyone onto the same page and aligned data collection.
- Set up Data Collection Systems: Next came the hardest part of CBAM reporting: establishing accurate and robust CBAM data collection systems. For this, the team first prepared and deeply studied the end-to-end process flow diagram to understand the data flowchart. With this, the CleanCarbon.ai CBAM software was deployed after integrating the process flow diagram and in-house data management systems. All data categories, including direct and indirect emissions, were marked and streamlined with the help of this software.

- Solving Precursors Data Hurdles: There was a critical and consistent challenge in obtaining CBAM-related data from vendors and suppliers. Convincing them was difficult; however, CleanCarbon came up with an innovative solution by preparing a software interface specifically for local vendors. With this, local vendors could easily input the required data. Now, Vividh Wires’ entire supply chain is CBAM-proof due to its proactive CBAM response.
- Streamlining Audit Trail: Auditability and traceability of emissions data were streamlined by the CleanCarbon team through the deployment of software that tracks all data sources and origin points. All evidence related to emission figures has been stored to ensure readiness for verification under CBAM.

- Automating CBAM Reporting: All CBAM reporting work was digitized and automated for Vividh Wires. Regular automated reminders were set up for internal data submissions and information collection. All teams and vendors receive regular reminders to execute their responsibilities under CBAM reporting successfully. This automated the entire process, leaving no room for mistakes, data gaps, or delays.
